Here are a number of things you should remember when designing edible cupcake toppers for a kiddie party.
Gender
This is very important if majority of your child’s guests belong to a particular gender. For a primarily girly party, you can use edible flowers as cupcake toppers. But for a party where guests are mostly boys, you can use toppers that are shaped like cars or sports balls.
Age
This is another essential demographic factor, whether designing food or a cup holder. You need to understand what the likes and dislikes of your target group, yes, but you also need to consider what’s safe or good for them, similar to designing wheelchair accessories. With toddlers, for instance, it’s important that you don’t give them too small cupcake toppers if they’re not edible. This way, it would be easier to tell when they’re chewing or swallowing they’re not supposed to digest.
There are more dos and don’ts to consider in general with inedible toppers all in all. You also need to consider the materials you’re using for making the toppers. Going back to the toddler example, this particular age group isn’t exactly known for being careful with their possessions. They’re just not that mature yet. So if you’re thinking of using cupcake toppers as souvenirs then you need to use more durable materials instead of something that they can easily destroy even without meaning to.
Design or Decor
Cupcake toppers must of course be visually appealing (one year we made a cake in the design of our drink holder). If possible, they must also complement the theme of your occasion. A pink hearts-and-flowers debut for your daughter would deserve cupcake toppers that maintain the same pattern such as having pink sugar flowers toppers with heart-shaped petals.
Size
Last but not the least, your cupcakes must be larger than your toppers. That may seem like common sense, but you’d be surprised at how many parents are carried away with their designs and end up using cupcake toppers that are bigger than the cupcakes themselves!
