Wheelchair equipment is any kind of device that is detachable and can be attached to perform specific functions where required, like wheelchair accessories. It is more like an accessory that is used for specific reasons. There is a wide array of wheelchair equipment available for both manual and power chairs. The more common types of wheelchair equipment include wheelchair batteries, storage compartments, a cup holder, carriers and ramps. A lot of different accessories can be attached to the wheelchair to make it more comfortable and effective. The wheelchair ramp for example, is a very good option. This ramp makes things convenient for wheelchair users by helping them to navigate a short flight of steps as well as to get the chair inside a vehicle or outside it. A modification of this is the special folding ramp which is also known as a suitcase ramp and is perfect for transportation and usage while one travels away from home. Although one can find solid ramps and two-fold ramps too, there are really not as convenient to use.
A power chair operates on a wheelchair battery. It is quite useful to have an extra charger and battery on hand especially when you are travelling away from home. The battery will often be removed from the chair during trips on cruises, ships or airlines. Similarly, if a battery is lost, replacement would be easy if you have an extra one handy instead of looking for the right model to replace on a trip.
For those who usually prefer travelling in cars, a wheelchair carrier is not a bad investment. The manual chair can be tucked on the back of the vehicle by folding it or stored in a special carrier on top of the vehicle. Power chairs will either need a pull behind trailer or a large carrier positioned at the back of the vehicle. This type of transportation is made very easy with the help of a wheelchair lift, which can raise the scooter up and place it into a van or lock it behind the vehicle.
There are a few more inexpensive wheelchair accessories which can help users make most of their time. Compartments and bags which hold maps or a drink holder that accommodates drinks, snacks and various other items can be attached to make the chair more convenient. The bags and cup holders can be attached on the sides of the wheelchair. Under seat compartments for keeping certain things like wallets could be useful as they prevent theft.
