Continuing our coffee cup holder related topics for today, here’s some useful info on specialty coffees:
There are many reasons why specialty coffee can be different from place to place. A few of the reasons include the procedure of growing the coffee beans, the area in which coffee is grown, the altitude of the area and the soil in the area. Specialty coffee is similar to gourmet coffee in the way that it varies from country to country, place to place and even from one year to another. The greatest impact on the coffee is obviously from the roaster that is used to treat the coffee. There are quite a few varieties of coffee beans that one needs to know about.
One of the cheaper varieties of coffee is the Robusta. Robusta coffee beans are lot cheaper and are grown at high altitudes around 3000m. Traditionally, the beans are of lower quality and are grown to create cheaper mixtures of coffee or a blend of other higher quality varieties. Although, it is useful for mixtures and blending, on its own the Robusta coffee has a slight smell of rubber in it.
Another variety of coffee is the Arabica which are superior coffee beans to Robusta. These are the most hunter variety of specialty coffee beans, partly because they are grown with lot of care and concentrations. Even the steps of milling and roasting are done with extreme focus. Grown at altitudes around 3000m, Arabica provides us with great tasting coffee.
The roasting part of the coffee beans determines the quality and taste of coffee in the end too. Even if you have quality coffee beans, you will not get excellent tasting coffee if they are over-roasted. Similarly, the degree to which beans should be roasted is something only employees with lot of experience can guess. The amount of roasting and the kind of presentation it needs varies from coffee bean to coffee bean and those who have lot of experience can distinguish the extent of roasting without burning it. The world of specialty coffee could be quite confusing given the whole lot of variety available. This is the reason why one should look to pick coffee only from reputed companies to ensure they get the best quality and blend. Going for recommendations is not a bad idea as only those who have tasted the coffee and known the ingredients and the process that goes into it can suggest what the best specialty coffee that one should pick up and put in your drink holders.
