Continuing our health focus, especially involving kids (getting them to drink something healthy out of their cup holder is important), here’s a few tips to start them on the right path:
It can be hard to serve your kids healthy snacks. However there are some standard snacks that are good for kids and they don’t even realize it, some such options are included below.
1.String Cheese: They come in tiny packages which are just perfect for kids. They happen to contain a lot of calcium, but kids love the yummy taste. String cheese makes for a perfect snack on the run and kids will never turn it down. Easy for you, easy for them, and full of important nutrients that kids need.
2.Celery with Peanut Butter: Usually if you slap peanut butter on anything it tastes good, and this is really no exception. You can take even the biggest piece of celery and if you coat it in peanut butter, kids will gobble it up. This makes it a favorite snack of parents everywhere because kids don’t even realize they are getting in a veggie in the process.
3.Carrots with Ranch: What kid doesn’t love to dip? This is the ultimate snack because they get to take a healthy ingredient through carrots and dip them in one of their favorite condiments. Kids can dip all day and this is a healthy way to do so.
4.Pita with Hummus: Either dip it, spread it, or just make a sandwich out of it, but many kids have come to love the delicious taste of hummus. They don’t realize that this is chock full of protein and other healthy niblets; they just know that it tastes good. This is a great way to keep them eating healthy, and they won’t even know it!
5.Toast with Peanut Butter: Another deceivingly healthy snack that kids love to eat up. You can serve this as breakfast or a snack and it’s hearty enough to fill them up. They’ll love it for the creamy taste of peanut butter and if you serve it on whole grain toast it’s that much healthier.
6.Raisins: If you present raisins as a delicious candy-like snack early on, they will never know that these are actually good for them. They’re easy to eat and to take on the go, but they give them a nice serving of fruit in the process. Not to mention a small cup of them fits nicely in our drink holder.
7.Sliced Fruit: If you make fruit enticing, kids will always turn to it. Slice it up, turn it into a fruit salad, and use lots of brightly colored fruit options. This is the way to get them to turn to fruit over other sugary snacks and they’ll learn to ask for it.
8.Yogurt: Kids are usually introduced to yogurt early on and therefore it becomes a staple in their diet. They love the creamy texture and delicious fruit flavors, and they don’t realize that it’s full of calcium and all sorts of other things that their bodies need.
9.Applesauce: This is a dessert to most kids and yet it’s actually good for them. Get them into the habit of eating applesauce for its healthy makeup and they will ask for it over other options that aren’t quite as good for them.
10.Meat Rolls: Wrapping meat up with cheese is easy to do, and yet kids really love it. This gives them a nice serving of protein and yet they will gobble it up without even realizing that it’s so good for them.
Sometimes the less kids know the better. If you serve up these healthy snacks, they will get what their little bodies need and you’ll know that you’re doing something good for them.
