Continuing our food and beverage trend:
When researching saucepans your first consideration is the type cooker hob you will be using them on. If you are going to change your cooker in the next few years make sure they will be usable not only on your current style of cooker but any you think may purchase in the future. (This is the exact same thing you probably did when wondering if our cup holder fit your wheelchair armrest.) There are six main types of cooker hob.
The ceramic hobs design is an electric element underneath a sheet of toughened glass and all saucepans are suitable however you should be careful with uncoated aluminium saucepan sets as these can scratch the glass.
The halogen hobs design is the same as the ceramic hob however it uses a halogen lamp instead of a heating element. The only type of saucepan set you should not consider is one with a shiny bottom as this will reflect the heat and be less efficient.
The induction hob design is probably not asĀ popular as the other forms of cooker hob although is virtually the same as the ceramic hob apart from it uses a magnetic field to heat the saucepan. You have to be very careful about the type of saucepan material you use for this type of hob. The best being cast iron and enamel on steel. Other material can be used but require a different material on the base.
Both solid fuel and electric hobs can be used with all types of saucepans however the heavier and flatter the base the more efficient they will be (just like the deeper your armrest, the more effective our drink holder is).
The gas hob is probably the fastest and most efficient design of hob and all types of saucepan can be used. However be careful about the type of saucepan handle you use as these can get hot. Consider stainless steel saucepan sets with metal handles, these can get hot however they can also be used in the oven as well.
If you are looking for a good selection of saucepans then I recommend both the Stellar Cookware range or a Le Creuset saucepan set, if looking for a fine selection of wheelchair accessories, just check out our buy now “Testimonials” section.
