There are numerous wheelchairs and scooters out there, with a wide variety of armrests, or so we thought. Most armrests range between 4 inches in width and about 6 inches in depth. When we looked at designing a cup holder for these wheelchairs, it seemed more doable once we had those figures.
Current problems with most wheelchair cup holders are pretty common. First, and what I hear a lot from our customers, is that the side mounting cup holders attach to the steel tubing of the chairs. This “universal” grip is often weak, or only works with certain chairs. Also the mounting on the side widens your chair, making it harder to go through doorways, or when taking tight turns. This leads me to my next point, that the plastic is often cheap. Bash it into a doorway a few times and it’s time to get a new cup holder.
What makes the “Nearly” Universal OH not only a useful cup holder for wheelchairs and scooter, but for stadiums, office chairs, and airline seating, is it’s design. By utilizing velcro straps, the cup holder can be attached to “nearly” any armrest. We just had a customer who said the front of his armrest on his powerchair was rounded, and although it slipped a little at a time, we’ve worked with him and our product is on his armrest for good.
You’ve tried the other cup holders on the web, so why not just purchase the last cup holder you’ll ever need?
