Israeli Workplace Cafeterias Upgraded

Wednesday, July 28th, 2010

When lunch time arrives, it brings out the indecisions as well about what one wants to eat. Whether they would like to order from outside or are tired eating the same usually stuff. Often this discussion ends with some average coffee in a cup holder and a cold roll or sandwich in plastic. However, food chains inside workplaces have now changed things. Several branches have been opened by Cup O Joe in Tel Aviv’s Salameh Street where the new police headquarters of Israel are located apart from the branches of Cellcom and SAP in other places. The choice that employees get is good and is also subsidized.

The chains that have opened in the workplace offer special dishes from the chefs, sandwiches and lunch that are delivered to the desk so that one doesn’t have to move an inch for lunch. It is possible to order for coffee and sandwiches even to the interrogation rooms in the police headquarters. This is a welcome change from a time when the army’s Shekem canteens would offer nothing but cold wafers. Now police officers feel they have choices that no other police station would have.

Although there is not a fixed time that policemen would quote when asked about the duration they spend in the canteens, it is usually around an hour. The money they spend is also anywhere near NIS 30 – 70 in the gourmet coffee canteens which is twice as much as they spend in the boring canteen. The cafeteria owners though get huge profits out of the large audience which makes up for a revenue around 30000 – 70000 NIS a day with about 1000 clients.

According to Espresso Bar and Cup O’ Joe, it is a strategic move to open these branches in workplaces. According to top marketing officials, those who drink their coffee at work might also start looking for it outside to put in a travel drink holder and the branches with thousands of workers turn out to be profitable in the end anyways.

Another catering firm that has been feeding most of the high tech workers in the country is the Schultz. According to Oren Schultz, the director and owner of the catering firm, as many as 50,000 portions are prepared daily by the 850 strong firm that are then sent to over 60 different companies including Netvision, Amdocs and Comverse. A good example is Amdocs where as many as 4000 people from all three campuses put together eat lunch every day after checking the situation from the computer screen.

Uncovering Wheelchair Accessories for Comfort

Wednesday, July 28th, 2010

An accident can happen at any point in time. They cannot be predicted or foreseen and can make drastic changes all of a sudden. One point you might be out enjoying your vacation skiing and the next moment you might find yourself in a wheelchair and not even be able to stroll around independently. This could be quite an unfortunate situation and really test a person’s character to the extremes. However, one’s life is far from being over even if they are restricted to a wheelchair. It might not be forever and a person in a wheelchair has every right to look for the utmost comfort possible.

Unlike self mobile individuals, the person in the wheelchair needs to be dependent on other people or devices for certain things and this is where technology and savvy accessories are changing the scene. More and more accessories are coming into the market to add to the convenience of the wheelchair and make the person more independent and comfortable and they do not feel awful during their time on the wheelchair. These simple accessories, like a cup holder, can also do a world of good to the mood of the person by giving them that extra bit of independence.

One should look out for those accessories that are available for those spending their time on the wheelchair. Comparing and contrasting the accessories and then checking out their prices and whether they are affordable is a good way of finding what accessories are within the reach and what are beyond. Just like those with cars add different accessories like sound systems, navigation systems, anti-lock mechanisms and burglar alarms, the wheelchair should carry a lot of individual accessories to display the flair of the person who is using the wheelchairs. That kind of an attitude not only helps a person stay happy by lifting their spirits but also sends across the message that this person is out to enjoy his or her life and therefore not to be taken for granted.

Accessories such as trays or a drink holder, for example, could help the person eat meals properly, read books, papers or even write or type on the laptops when required. This will help the person keep himself busy. Battery operated wheelchairs can also be provided with ramps for moving up an incline without anyone’s help. Special pouches and carriers will help carry other things like spare batteries, magazines, books etc. which a person might need from time to time.

Interestingly, more than 4/5th of the McDonald restaurants across the world are operated by franchisees run by local women and men. According to the company report released recently, consumers were interested to visit McDonald to enjoy the wide spectrum of beverages offered including frappes, value based drinks and the McCafe line-up. The everyday value options topped by the Breakfast Dollar Menu and core classic favorites like Chicken McNuggets are also attracting consumers.

Despite curbs on discretionary spending during the economic crisis, Oak Brook which is the McDonalds based in Illinois, has outperformed every other competitor in the informal eating out market and has been able to notch market share with themed food events, four and three price tier menus, extended hours and restaurant reimaging. The company has also now started to sell strong coffee to capture the market segment dominated by Starbucks Corp which is the specialty coffee retailer. It has also installed many cappuccino and latte counters in 2009. The performance of McDonald has been enhanced largely by the beverage and food value offerings and the new additions including Chicken McNuggets which are Shrek themed and Happy Meal promotions which will motivate kids to eat fruits, put dairy products i their cup holder and eat their vegetables. A line of fruit smoothies for drink holders has also been launched by the company from the beginning of this month. There have also been controversies in the company with the recall of 12 million glasses that featured characters from the movie series Shrek as the designs contained cadmium which is a toxic metal.
