Common Cup Holder Endeavors

Tuesday, September 29th, 2009

The history of modern civilization is replete with such inventions that seem just so intuitive in today’s world that we cannot help but wonder how humanity managed to survive before their discovery. Today I will talk about one such accessory that has become such an indispensible part of our lives that we take its existence almost for granted.

If you have lived in any modern day city then without a doubt you would have used a cup holder. Granted that cup holders are not one of those path breaking, awe-inspiring inventions of our times. But their beauty lies in the fact that they have become such integral part of our daily routine that life would be pretty inconvenient without them. The bulk of cup holder usage occurs in our automobiles. Be it the daily morning coffee during office commute or the chilled soda during the drive upstate, these cup holders really do make life much easier when travelling. After all, you wouldn’t want your neatly ironed suit soaked in your morning coffee just before your all important meeting. Avoiding these types of mistakes is easy enough if you have a cup holder in your car.

Then we have what are commonly known as poker table cup holders. These are made to hold a beer or other beverage while you enjoy Texas Hold’em or any other poker game at the table. A very common sight in casinos, they are made out of stainless steel and are affixed into the table edge using a thin plate, providing a simple yet elegant way of securing your drinks.

Another creative variant is the rotating cup holder. These are usually built into tables, chairs or even cars. Most are on a hinge that allows them to be rotated closer or father away depending on convenience. One unique feature about rotating cup holders is that they are also available as stand-alone fittings, letting you install one where ever you need them.

A rather advanced type is the insulated cup holder. Although not so sleek, it packs the utility of temperature control for your beverage. It is simply an insulated container that is made to hold cups, bottles, or cans.

The bottom line is that when looking for the perfect cup holder; just make sure to remember exactly what you’ll be using it for. This will help you find the cup holder that’s just right for whatever application you need.

Drink Holders for the Fan.

Like going to the movies, most sports venues haves a drink holder at the end of the armrest. Others might not. When out on a date with someone new, or your spouse, the event might be so close, that you lose control springing to your feet cheering. A cup holder would be useful in this situation. There are drink holders available that mimic most stadiums, by holding your beverage at the end of your armrest, but also a few more fan oriented types of cup holders. Some padded seat cushions have a cup holder portion attached that dangles between your legs, and if you’re at a stadium with bleachers as seating, there’s a few clip-on cup holders that slide onto your seat.

Cup Holder Convenience from Wheelchair Accessories

Saturday, September 26th, 2009

You know wheelchairs weren’t designed with everyday conveniences in mind. One of those conveniences for those of us that use wheelchairs is cup holders. With some of the older model electric wheelchairs, no cup holder means struggling with some mobility issues. Of course we otherwise live very full lives but it’s kind of hard to carry a cup or two of hot coffee and try to use both hands to wheel around.

Cup holders are everywhere else, such as in our cars and boats so we can concentrate on driving and still enjoy a hot cup of joe. They are accessories on the finest touring motorcycles and mini-van musts. Yet, the cup holder is an item that is sorely not a standard item on a wheelchair. Such a small thing to have access to would make a lot of difference to someone that needs to use both hands and still get a cup of coffee from the cafeteria to the meeting room.

Many companies have taken this oversight for the wheelchair confined to heart and now offer several different types of cup holders for wheelchairs. These companies offer no-spill cup holders, double cup holders, and large, small, self-leveling, folding and even pivoting cup holders. There are cup holders galore for the wheelchair masses and they are suitable for light and heavyweight drinks, whether it be in a can or bottle.

With all these choices in cup holder devices it’s only natural they also offer convenient ways to mount them to wheelchairs. This is a really important aspect of the cup holder.
You will need a sturdy one so that hot coffee won’t be burning anyone. But it also needs to be easy to put on and remove. Cup holder mounts are designed for chairs with round tubing, square tubing or either kind of tubing. There are the Velcro strip ones and the metal clip styles. You can buy the mounts that attach to the wheelchair frame itself or the detachable tray.

One thing to remember when making a choice about cup holders for motorized wheelchairs is that it needs to add convenience and comfort to the person it’s for. It is one of those really small things that will make an incredibly huge difference in someone’s life.
